  1. My mother was one in a million. She reared four children completely on her own, she took in boarders, did sewing, and worked 40 hours a week ina fruit shop, riding a push bike some distance each way. Those days there were no benefits of any kind and I didn’t really realise how hard it was for her till when I grew up. If someone turned up at a meal time and there was not enough, she always gave up her meal, saying she had always eaten. We all loved her so much, but it is only when you grow up you realise how hard it was for her, as we were all very young.

  2. My mum was the best in the world. She reared four of us, doing three jobs. She worked at home sewing for people, taking in boarders, and worked 40 hours a week in fruit shop. She was one in a million and I wish we had thanked her more.
